The Artist’s success at the Academy Awards inspired Roberto Cavalli to hand out a prize of his own in Milan today.
“If there was an Oscar for world’s greatest model,” said the designer, “then I would give it to Naomi Campbell, no question.”With no statuette to dispense, Cavalli instead awarded Campbell a plum spot closing his show – the very last of this season’s Milan Fashion Week.
Wearing black elbow gloves and a floor-length, purplish beaded dress with a steep V-neckline, the 41-year-old stalked her way around Cavalli’s catwalk with the all aplomb of a 25-year-veteran.She too had The Artist on her mind when she said backstage that modelling “is, in a way, like silent acting. I want to wear the dress and whatever it is that I’m wearing, show it in the best possible way.”
Cavalli’s latest collection was a new variation on his oft-revisited animal-print riff. Hand-painted Cavalli prints were transferred to high-hemmed mini puff-skirts, or reproduced in glittering crystal on long tiered maxi dresses and wide-cut trousers.The catwalk was bedecked with 39,000 roses arranged in tiger-print pattern, the models’ spike-heeled booties were furry leopard print, and even the sunglasses has flashes of crocodile and ostrich skin at their edges. – Thetelegraph
