LAHORE: Old Ravians on Sunday elected their new executive committee for a period of two years after a closely contested election on the seats of Executive Member 1980s, Executive Member 1990s and Executive 2001-12 while other seats went unopposed as a result of seat-adjustment between two groups.
Taha Sadaqat won the election on the seat of Executive Member 2001-2012 for second consecutive term beating his senior, Dr Ali Raza, by 26 votes. Mubarik Arshad was elected Executive Member 1990s for the first time by beating Kashif Ali by 29 votes. Mian Amjad Watoo won the seat of Executive Member 1980s beating Waqar Ahmed Wains by 14 votes.
The Old Ravians Union Election Committee comprising District and Sessions Judge Tahir Pervaiz, advocate Javed Altaf and Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt also announced that Kamran Lashari was elected president of the union unopposed along with Mansoor Feroze Khan (vice president), Mian M Ahmad Chhachhar (general secretary) and Sajad Haider Rizvi as treasurer.
Muhammad Saleem Sheikh, former Test cricketer Shafqat Rana, former federal secretary Kazi Afaq and Punjab Director General Protocol Asjad Ghani Tahir were also elected unopposed executive members 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s respectively.Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman congratulated the winners on elected as representatives of one of the most prestigious community of the country, saying that they should actively contribute to the university’s initiatives for the welfare of deserving students. – Dailytimes
