LAHORE: The 102-classroom new postgraduate building was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

The new academic block has 40 labs, 90 lecture theatres and a spacious conference hall. The whole plan cost Rs188.656 million, out of which 66.60 percent was paid by the Punjab government. The rest has been borne by the LCWU itself.Talking to the girl students present on the occasion, Shahbaz Sharif said that the youth are the hope of our future, and spending resources on them is not expenditure, but a useful investment. He said laptops distribution programme of Punjab government would continue in order to apprise the younger generation of the latest technology.

With reference to load shedding in the country, the chief minister urged the students to pay special attention to conducting research on the energy crisis. He said, “Punjab has wide potential of generating electricity through coal. We are spending billions of rupees from our national exchequer on the import bill to generate electricity, through oil, whereas these billions of rupees can be saved by generating electricity through our own resources, and ensuring provision of inexpensive energy to the people. The girl students should present new and innovative ideas for solution of energy crisis in order to play their effective role in bringing the country out of darkness into the era of light.”

LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor said the block would accommodate 11 post-graduate departments having its student strength of more than 3,000. She said that this would make the higher education especially research accessible to more female students. The civil work of the block is nearly complete and will become operative soon. – Dailytimes
