LAHORE: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Raja Anwar has said that the Punjab government is spending Rs 4 billion to provide facilities to the students of elementary schools in order to equip them with modern and quality education.
He expressed these views while talking to a 15-member delegation of educationists who called on him at his residence on Sunday.He said that reforms in education sector are the most important agenda of the Punjab government and adequate funds have been provided for the purpose.The PEF chairman told the delegation that Rs 520 million have been allocated for upgrading girls’ middle schools to high level, and said that another Rs 200 million have been allocated for setting up science labs in public sector schools.
“This reforms process will help us modernise the school education system and it will also help in producing a leadership of international standards,” Anwar said.Separately, Punjab Labour Minister Ehsanuddin Qureshi said that 200 non-formal education centres are imparting education to 7,000 students at brick kilns in Lahore and Kasur, adding that around 5,700 workers have been facilitated to acquire CNICs.
Talking to various delegations, he said health camps have also been set up at brick kilns and free of cost treatment is being provided to 1,300 labourers.He said labourers are the backbone of industry and every effort is being made by the government to upgrade their socio-economic status.He said the government has increased minimum wages of labourers from Rs 7,000 to Rs 9,000.The minister said that the government has also increased the marriage grant from Rs 70,000 to Rs 100,000 for daughters of labourers and women workers. – Dailytimesd
