Pakistani mangoes reach Japanese markets

TOKYO: Pakistan has successfully managed to export its traditional mangoes to Japanese market and a special ceremony was held here to introduce these mangoes to the Japanese. According to reports, from Tokyo, Tariq Puri, Chairman Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), who is currently visiting Japan addressing a gathering to introduce Pakistani mangoes said it was possible due to the cooperation and assistance of Japanese government that Pakistan exported mangoes to Japanese market. He informed the audience that they will be the first Japanese who will taste Pakistani mangoes. “I am sure Japanese people will enjoy aroma and sweetness of Pakistani mangoes.” he said.

The Japanese present on this occasion were served with Pakistani mango juices and traditional drink, ‘Lasi’.Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Noor Muhammad Jadmani speaking on the occasion said Pakistan is a cradle of civilizations and its links to Japan through Buddhism are centuries old.
He said though Pakistan-Japan diplomatic relations were established in 1952, but culturally the people of the two countries had centuries old strong bonds of friendship and understanding.He called upon the NHK culture centers members to visit Pakistan which is a beautiful country and its people are loving.

The Japanese government has promised to extend every possible assistance to Pakistan for extensive marketing of its mangoes in its country.Meanwhile, Japanese Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms.  Makiko Kikuta, while talking to delegation of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in Tokyo said she was happy to know that first consignment of the Pakistani mangoes has reached Japan and lauded the efforts of TDAP for improving vapor heat treatment (VHT) process of the fruits to meet the Japanese quarantine standards.The Minister expressed hope that Pakistan will provide conducive environment for Japanese companies to enter Pakistani market.

She said that Pakistan’s export to Japan could be enhanced through quality control, firm marketing strategy and research.Pakistan has tremendous agricultural resources which could be further developed with assistance of JICA, Japanese government will support JICA to facilitate various projects in Pakistan, she added. – APP
