GuarantCo has given a grant of $281,000 to Mobilink Foundation (MF) for extension of its SMS-base literacy program. Mobilink Foundations’s SMS-base literacy program strives to provide education to people, via mobile phones, who can’t access traditional medium of education.
This program is run by MF in collaboration with UNESCO and few more international organisations. Until now, MF has provided its services to 6000 learners in first phase. And now the latest grant will take that number upto 8500 learners in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). Bilal Munir Sheikh, Chief Commercial Officer Mobilink said, “As the most trusted telecom operator of Pakistan, Mobilink is committed to make every day better for the communities it operates in.
The GuarantCo grant secured by Mobilink Foundation endorses our vision as well as efforts put in to improve the education scenario in Pakistan.” And added, “As GSMA award winner, our SMS-Based Literacy program has become a flagship CSR initiative for Pakistan and I am confident that with this grant, this program will play a significant role in providing education through technology to the deserving youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.’’ MF is all set to build 100 learning centers in Haripur, Mansehra, Charsadda, Mardan and Nowshera as a part of the project. And around 140 new job opportunities are expected to be created due to this extension. –thenewstribe
