LAHORE:The 3rd Annual Fishing Competition was held at Lake No 7 of the Royal Palm Golf course on Sunday.The fishing lake set amidst the spectacular surroundings offered anglers an exciting fishing day and over 60 anglers entered the competition with state of the art fishing tackles.The lake is a breeding ground for fish categories grasser up, mori, thaila and rahoo and while most of the anglers appeared technically sound the competition ultimately centred around Muhammed Ali Zaidi, MS Babar, Iftikhar Taj Mian, Sheer Zaman, Amna Sabzwari, Hafiz Yousaf, Ali Moeen, Ch. Suhail, Faisal Mehmood, Rizwan Atta, Aftab Mohtashim and Faisal Iqbal.These skilled anglers offered good food as bait to the fish, besides their skills and patience and managed some rewarding runs catching four pounders, three pounders, two pounders and even the lighter ones.Somehow the festival offered opportunities even to those who were new entrants and although aware of the basics, it was their first big chance to show their skills. The winner turned out to be Hafiz Yousaf and his son Abdullah Yousaf of Aitchison who with seven catches, the best being four pounds, was the most successful team. Muhammed Ali Zaidi, a 70 years old angler, was second with five catches and others who did well were Faisal Iqbal (three) and Amna Sabzwari (two). Quite a few had bigger number of catches but smaller in size and weight.Hafiz Yousaf told us that Pakistan is an action oriented destination for fishing and has a number of fishing tour destinations which offer charm of the outdoors activity and also nearness to gurgling streams and rivers and beautiful scenery.
