Ever since he declared an all-out war against terrorism and extremism, the Prime Minister kept on consulting with his legal and political advisers for the expeditious enforcement of the 20-point action plan agreed upon by all parliamentary parties, according to PM Office. He called a consultative meeting today to nail down the implementation tactics.

He will also regularly summon follow-up meetings over the implementation, according to the PM Office sources. It should be mentioned here that the PM Sharif, in a midnight address to the nation following lengthy deliberations spanning over almost 11 hours, unveiled a 20-point counter-terrorism action plan, stressing an iron-fist action is vitally required to eradicate extremism.

In his televised address, he also announced to set up speedy trial courts manned by military officers to dispense with the terror-related cases, as a part of an anti-terrorism strategy following a deadly Taliban school attack that killed 150 people, mainly schoolchildren. In his brief address, he gave no details regarding the special trial courts; however,

he said the courts headed by military officers, will function for two years and will try hardened terrorists. Hours after the December 16 attack on army-run school in Peshawar, the premier lifted a six-year moratorium on capital punishment. Later on December 20, Pakistan executed two terrorists–the first after the moratorium was lifted. –SAMAA
