LONDON:Speaking at a conference at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) examining the role of women in the development of Gulf states, British Cabinet Minister Baroness Sayeeda Warsi on Thursday called for a greater role for women in the Gulf in business and government.Baroness Warsi noted that the debates taking place in the Gulf over the role of women were not that different from those taking place in Western societies, and welcomed the fact that women in the Gulf are increasingly taking up places in government and business. But, speaking about how much this issue meant to her, she called for even more to be done to capitalise on the potential of women. She said: “The role of women is an issue I care deeply about, and I was glad of the opportunity to speak at SOAS this morning.  It is important for the Gulf states, and for the UK, that the increasing numbers of women that are now in higher education are provided the opportunity to move into roles in business and government.“Women in the Gulf are increasingly taking up places in government and business. I hope that these women are seen as role models within their countries and the region so that women rise even further and achieve even more.”  – App
