Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif declared on Monday that he will neither resign nor go on a leave. The national political leadership has resolved that there cannot be any compromise on supremacy of the constitution and continuity of the democratic system.

Nawaz Sharif
I will neither resign nor go on leave: PM

A joint declaration to this effect came during a meeting of the national political leaders with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Monday. The PM reiterated his firm resolve to accept the constitutional demands of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), saying he was ready to hold talks with their leaders but would not bow down before any unconditional condition. The meeting pointed out that future of Pakistan is linked with democracy and any deviation can be dangerous for federation of Pakistan. The leaders expressed their firm resolve that they stand by the prime minister in the struggle to defend democracy.

All parliamentary parties decided to become party to the petition filed in the Supreme Court for supremacy of parliament. They said they would not allow setting of a precedent under which a few people could take hostage mandate of millions of people. The meeting strongly condemned attacks on parliament, PM House and PTV. It termed it attack on democracy and state. The meeting condemned as irresponsible the role played by a section of media who it said tried to create misunderstanding between institutions. Those who attended the meeting included Syed Khursheed Shah, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. -dailytimes
