The Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered the release of Gullu Butt who is allegedly an active member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and police tout, on bail. A two-member bench of the high court issued the order today.
Butt was caught smashing cars during the clashes between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and the police outside the Minhajul Quran International Secretariat on June 17. He smashed windscreens and windows of private vehicles with his club, while police officials looked on and the vandalism continued unabated.
On August 5, a division bench of the LHC had sought investigation record from police on a bail application by Gullu Butt. His counsel had submitted that he was mentally unfit and that police had wrongfully implicated him in the case. Butt’s lawyer had said that Butt had vandalised the vehicles in anger after he was attacked by some people, adding that he was innocent and should be granted bail. -tribune
