ISLAMABAD: After fake encounters by the Indian army in Occupied Kashmir (IoK), some Military Intelligence officials have been found involved in a conspiracy of planting improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and then tipping off the police about the same to get rewards and promotions.Quoting a report , Special Police Officer (SPO) of Indian police, the main accused and mastermind in the case of transportation of explosives to Jammu on October 8, told his interrogators that he had provided about 72 IEDs to the army officials. The SPO, the reports said, was in contact with some army officials, aspiring to seek rewards and promotions, to which he used to provide explosives on demand. Some of those army officers, the reports said, were also recommended for reward after the police and other agencies recovered the planted explosives on the basis of their inputs. The revelation by the SPO is set to blow the lid off the reported major nexus between some army officials and their sources who would stage-manage recovery of IEDs for monetary considerations.Following arrest of an ex-serviceman of the army, identified as Ram Krishen, a resident of Kishtwar, the reports said, a link was developed by the police after which the involvement of some of the Military Intelligence officials surfaced and the investigation took a serious turn.Though the case is yet to be completely solved, the reports said, the investigation of police now is focused on identifying the Military Intelligence officials allegedly involved in such malpractices.

So far, the police have arrested at least seven persons for their involvement in the transportation of explosives to Jammu from Gandoh. The nexus emerged on October 8 this year when police recovered a consignment of apple boxes in Jammu city in which a cavity had been created to store a black material, which was being passed off as explosives. The boxes had detonators attached to them, triggering panic in the city.Pertinently, Inspector General of police, Jammu Zone, Ashok Gupta had on October 11 said that some Military Intelligence officials were under scanner in connection with the recovery of the IEDs.The incident comes four months after three youth hailing from Nadihal village in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district were killed in cold-blood by some army officials in Machil area of Kupwara, labeling them as foreign militants – Sananews
