LAHORE: The ongoing tussle between Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board,Ijaz Butt and Younis Khan was finally ended here on Wednesday with former captain cleared for selection to play South Africa in United Arab Emirates later this month. The dispute was finally resolved after a meeting between Chairman PCB and Younis at PCB headquarters here and a PCB announcements said “ PCB following this meeting has decided that this matter, after it was remanded by the appellate tribunal to PCB, stands closed and that Younis name will be forwarded to the selection committee for consideration for selection on merit”.Sources in PCB told APP that the matter was resolved “amicably in the larger interest of Pakistan cricket “ which suffered badly in the wake of recent allegations of spot fixing and suspension of its three players, Salman Butt,Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif by ICC “.
The meeting was the outcome of a letter written by PCB to meet with the Chairman and Younis who previously was engaged in a war of words with the Ijaz Butt showed a positive gesture accepted it and expressed his desire to resume his international cricket career as soon as possible.Younis was one of four players the PCB omitted or banned for an indefinite period in the back drop of a dismal tour of Australia in 2009-10. Younis developed strong differences with the PCB ,specially with its Chairman, and refused to come to terms and conditions, and appealed against the punishment to a one man appellate tribunal.
Things turned bad to worst for Younis when the tribunal referred his case back to PCB.As other banned players apologised from the Board Younis did not follow them which further complicated the issue.During the meeting the Chairman PCB assured Younis a place in the squad to play South Africa and later in the day,the former captain joined the ongoing training camp at NCA for the build up of the team.Younis told the Chairman that he is fully fit since he is engaged in “good cricket” and he has the form to deliver as a reliable middle order batsman.Younis will be part of the team which will play five one day international and based on his performance the selectors will decide to make him a part of the test squad – App
