The electricity tariff has been increased by Rs2.24 per unit, according to a notification issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had pleaded that the power companies should be allowed a tariff increase of Rs2.19 per unit as the fuel cost for power generation jumped to Rs11.77 per unit against reference price of Rs9.58 for January.
NEPRA, however, allowed the power distribution companies to increase the electricity tariff by Rs2.24 per unit, on account of fuel price adjustment for January. The tariff will affect the consumer bills of March but consumers of K-Electric ( formerly called Karachi Electric Supply Company, KESC) and lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month will not be affected. -Pakistantoday
