KARACHI: Omar Al-Kojah from Syria will take on Afghanistan’s Saleh Muhammad in the final of the Asian Snooker Championship here on Friday (today).
On Thursday, both the finalists won their respective semifinals. Omar scored a marathon 6-5 victory over Aamir Sarkosh of Iran in the second semifinal. Earlier in the first semifinal of day, veteran Afghan cueist Saleh shocked IBSF world junior champion Zhao Xin Tong. Fighting Omar came from 1-3 down to overpower Sarkosh after an intriguing and thrilling tussle.
Sarkosh made breaks of 102 and 88 but still ended at the losing side. After keen tussle, the match was locked 5-all. Bit in the deciding frame Omer held his nerves to chalk out 55-42, 69-65, 0-81, 29-59, 18-102, 69-0, 0-88, 80-00, 32-63, 72-22, 53-45 victory. The winner of the championship will take a glittering trophy and cash award of $7500 while the runner-up will collect $3500 with losing semifinalists Zhao Xin Tong and Aamir Sarkosh getting $2000 each. – DailyTimes
