RAWALPINDI: Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and National Institute of Heart Diseases (NIHD) Rawalpindi Commandant Major General SM Shahab Naqvi said that heart transplants arebeing carried out in many countries of the world and especially in Saudi Arabia (KSA), Pakistan has also entered into the race of heart transplants.

“We started the work on this project two years ago and by the grace of Allah Almighty, we are now capable of carrying out a heart transplant anytime,” he said, while addressing the closing session of a three-day National Transplant Conference of Pakistan held under the auspices of the AFIC and the NIHD Rawalpindi in collaboration with the Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH).

After the two-day successful completion of scientific sessions, he informed the participants that a trained team was ready with the required equipment for a heart transplant. “We have also registered a number of recipients, whose required tests have been carried out. So, whenever we receive a donor, the first heart transplant of Pakistan will be carried out in AFIC and NIHD Rawalpindi.”Shahab Naqvi also requested the participants to spread his message to the people of Pakistan to assist in this noble cause and to get them registered as donors.Religious scholars, legal experts, surgeons and specialist doctors also addressed the session and answered questions of the participants. – DailyTimes
