NEW DELHI: Pakistan was denied a medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010 on Saturday when their star weightlifter, Shujauddin Malik, pulled out of the 94-kg competition owing to an injury.Shujauddin Malik had won the gold medal for his country in 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne and was the team captain.Shujauddin injured his shoulder on Saturday while lifting 140kg weight during the competition. He ruptured his right shoulder muscles during the event, team manager Rashid Mahmood told media.Following the injury, Shujauddin was taken to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in an ambulance where he was told about the gravity of his injury.Shujauddin Malik would give another go at the hospital today morning when he would get his MRI done.It is interesting to mention here that Shujauddin Malik was in the news right from the inaugural ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2010 when Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah snatched national flag from him to lead the Pakistan contingent during the parade.Things went bitter following the incident and a source told The Sports Encounter that Shujauddin Malik had lost his composure and intent after the incident which might have led to his injury – Sportsencounter
