KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Muhammad Hussain Syed, has said that 2013 would be the year of starting the Karachi Circular Railway, while other transport projects under public-private partnership would also be initiated next year.
He said the KCR project, being launched with cooperation of Japan government, bears social and economic importance as it would leave far reaching effects. “The project would provide safe and comfortable travelling facility to 0.7 million commuters daily,” he said during a meeting with Akitoshi Iio, Senior Advisor for South Asia of Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA who met him at his office.
The administrator said it was heartening to note that 76 Japanese companies are working in Pakistan of which 49 in Karachi alone. The Japanese delegation is currently visiting Karachi to discuss various matters relating to KCR, including providing Japanese loan on easy terms and examining the scope of circular railway in the city. – DailyTimes
