LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said PML-N would demand replacement of Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood as the Punjab governor, adding his nomination was outcome of a deal aiming at impacting the forthcoming general elections and bolstering the sagging image of PPP.
Ch Nisar said the appointment of the new governor would neither benefit south Punjab nor PPP, adding wheeling-dealing and horse trading of Asif Ali Zardari was approaching its logical end. He said the PPP spokesmen had nothing to say except levelling baseless and concocted allegations against political opponents. He said PML-N had no misunderstanding about the new Punjab governor who could hardly be described as a Muslim Leaguer, especially when his own political party had disowned him.
He added PML-N would formally demand change of the governors of all the provinces for the forthcoming elections. He pointed out that the political governors would not be able to retain their positions on the formation of caretaker setups. Commenting on the expected long march of Tahir-ul-Qadri, Nisar said he did not see his role in Pakistani politics, adding Qadri had tried his luck in politics several times in the past, but like Imran Khan, he had been able to win only one seat and that too with the support of Gen Pervez Musharraf.
He said though Tahir-ul-Qadri had the capacity to gather people from different sources, but he lacked capability of getting their votes. He questioned how a person who had been absent from the political scene of the country for the last five years could bring about a change through his sudden appearance. He said jumping by Imran Khan and MQM on the bandwagon of Qadri had exposed their real designs. He opined that after having failed to bring about a revolution, Imran was trying to come to power with the help of
Tahir-ul-Qadri as he had done with the help of Pervez Musharraf and General Pasha a few years ago. Nisar said it was surprising that MQM which had been an integral part of provincial as well as federal governments for the last five years had decided to support a long march against its own government, adding nothing could be more absurd or ridiculous. He said Altaf Hussain, Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadri who had been vehemently supporting Musharraf had again joined hands. – Nation
