ISLAMABAD: Federal Flood Commission (FFC) on Friday said that strong monsoon currents are likely to penetrate into the country causing widespread rains with scattered heavy falls from today to Sunday. Heavy rains could result into flash floods and landslides at vulnerable areas during this period.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), yesterday’s low-pressure marked areas lie over western Madhya Pradesh in India and adjoining areas today. This well marked low-pressure area is likely to shift further north-westward during the next 24 hours.Widespread rain and thundershowers with scattered heavy rainfall, at times very heavy rain, is expected in Islamabad and Punjab from Friday to Sunday.

Heavy rains might cause flash floods in central and lower parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Kohat, Peshawar, DI Khan and Bannu divisions. DG Khan Division would also be vulnerable to flash floods over this period.Scattered rains and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected on Friday and Saturday in Sindh and eastern parts of Balochistan and might cause flash floods in Zhob, Sibbi and Nasirabad divisions.

Similarly, in Kashmir widespread rain and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected from Friday to Sunday. Rains may also trigger landslides at vulnerable areas. Scattered rain is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan from Friday to Sunday. – Dailytimes
