Mad Men costumer Janie Bryant went to great lengths to have her favourite fashion item featured on the show.
The hit drama series – starring Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks – has received a great deal of attention for its on-screen fashion, with many of the featured pieces inspiring catwalk shows. Now Mad Men’s costume designer Janie – who has received much acclaim for her creations – has revealed her favourite item to appear on the show.
‘One of my all-time favourites is the jumpsuit Jane Sterling [played by Peyton List] wore for the LSD party in the last season,’ Janie told British Company magazine.’It was a vintage garment I bought a year before shooting, and I just loved it. I didn’t know when it could be used when I found it, but I knew Matthew Weiner, the show’s creator, would write something it would be perfect for.’
Set in the 1960s, Janie takes much of her fashion inspiration for the show from style icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly. The award-winning designer has explained why period fashion continues to inspire contemporary style.’Why is there such a love for vintage right now? Because of the elegant silhouettes!’ she exclaimed.’Women have discovered there is an amazing element to dressing up and feeling beautiful.’ – MSN
