KARACHI: At least seven people have been killed in separate incidents of firing on Tuesday as violence continues in the port city, reports a private TV channel.
A woman was shot dead by some unidentified people in Baldia Town while two workers of Suni Tehreek, Muhammad Hussain and Sohail Qadiri, passed away during treatment in the hospital. Both the workers of Suni Tehreek were injured in firing in Baldia Town. Meanwhile, the residents of North Karachi protested against target killings outside Bilal Town police station. Meanwhile, at least six persons sustained injuries when unidentified assailants attacked the office of a political party in Kemari area.
According to a private TV channel, the attackers hurled a hand grenade at the office which injured six people. Another news channel reported that the people were injured as a result of gunshot wounds as the attackers opened fire at the office. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital.Meanwhile, tension griped Orangi Town area of the city on Tuesday after the killing of a political activist. Shahid, a local activist of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Monday when he was taking tea outside his house situated at Bangla Bazar of the area.
Shops and all other business activities remained closed on Tuesday in the area as the victim family mourned his death. The daughter of the deceased activist demanded immediate action against her father’s killers.Violence claims 18 lives in two days: Different incidents of violence during the past two days claimed 18 lives in the port city. A political worker lost his life to firing in New Karachi, sector 5-J. A body was found from Orangi Town area. Two people were killed by firing in Karachi’s Lines area. The situation in the area turned tense after the incident. Another political activist died of gunshot wounds by unknown persons near Baghdadi Masjid in Martin Quarters area of Karachi.
One person was killed in Korangi No 2-1/2. Police sources claimed the victim was associated with a criminal gang. Two political party workers were killed in Orangi town after a firing incident. The killings spread panic in the area and as a result shops and business were shut down. Two people were gunned down and one other person was injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on them in Kharadar. One person was killed in Manzoor colony, while another was killed near Garden Dhobi Ghath. One person was killed near Korangi.
The dead body of a woman was found near Nazimabad. Unknown gunmen opened fire in Memon Goth killing one man. Police officials said the killing appears to be a case of personal vendetta. The tortured body of one man was found in a gunny bag near Maripur Road Crown Cinema. The dead man had been shot to death. Another man’s body was found near Rehri Goth. A political party worker succumbed to wounds on the operating table after being shot at in Baldia Town.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain expressed his grief over the killing and said that sectarian elements were targeting MQM members. Firing in Lee Market injured two police officials including a crime branch officer. While at the same time firing incidents in Quaidabad, Sher Shah and Baldia Town left five people injured including one woman. Furthermore, an unknown person sent a threatening letter to blow up the city courts to Karachi High Court Bar president.
30 criminals arrested in targeted operation
Karachi police raided in five districts and arrested 25 criminals including five proclaimed offenders here on Tuesday. As per details, police launched operation against criminals to prevent the crime activities and through checking, snap checking, patrolling, picketing, raiding and targeted action they arrest 25 criminals including five proclaimed offenders who were involved in criminal activities and recovered weapons from their possession. Different operations were launched in different jurisdictions of police stations in the west, east south, central and Mailer districts and 13 pistols, one repeater and one dagger were recovered from the arrested accused. – PT
