Nawaz for engaging philanthropists in rebuilding flood-hit villages

LAHORE – PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were given a detailed briefing on Sunday about the construction and design of modern villages to be built in place of the ones devastated by floods. According to a handout, the meeting was attended by the national and provincial assemblies’ members, Chief Secretary, Board of Revenue officers, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority and others. Asim Raza, Ejaz Qadri and Amna of the architect firm briefed the meeting about the proposed design of the modern villages.

The PML-N Quaid said that a large number of philanthropists and welfare organisations were interested in the construction of modern villages in place of those destroyed by the flood and such persons and organisations should be encouraged.

He said that a meeting be arranged with philanthropists and welfare organisations which had announced their interest in the construction of modern villages at the donors conference so that work could be started as soon as possible with their cooperation. The PDMA Director General informed that different individuals and organisations had announced to bear the expenses on the construction of 2100 houses at the donors conference.
A cost of Rs 700 million was estimated for the construction of these houses and provision of necessary facilities, he said, adding that the construction work of modern villages had been started at seven different places in the Punjab.

Nawaz also appreciated the performance of the CM and his team regarding the successful holding of donors’ conference, which was also held on Sunday. The conference was attended by a large number of diplomats of important countries, representatives of local and foreign financial institutions, heads of banks and representatives of NGOs who announced their cooperation and donations for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood affectees – Nation
