KARACHI: Excise & Taxation Department Sindh has recovered Rs 2.75 million with a penalty of Rs.2.79 million as Motor Vehicle Tax and impounded 596 defaulting vehicles in a week long vehicle checking campaign throughout the province.
Director General Excise & Taxation Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that teams have been constituted in all five divisions Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana for checking of vehicles under the supervision of Directors of Excise and Taxation concerned. The teams consist of Excise & Taxation Officers (ETOs), Assistant Excise & Taxation Officers and Inspectors.
Siddiqui informed that during road checking at least 11238 vehicles were checked in five divisions and 596 vehicles were impounded which were heavy defaulters of Motor Vehicle Tax. The documents of 1584 vehicles were seized of which the documents of 640 vehicles were released after realizing Rs 24,76,048 as motor vehicle tax along with penalty of Rs.279, 056.
He further informed that 18 vehicles were impounded, and the documents of 906 vehicles were seized in Karachi Division. Besides 220 documents were released after realizing Rs.9, 34,444 as motor vehicle tax and Rs.87, 200 recovered on account of penalty.Director General Excise informed that 355 vehicles were impounded and documents of 326 vehicles were seized of which the documents of 183 vehicles were released and recovered Rs.5,88,804 tax and Rs.70, 365 penalties from Hyderabad Division.
In Mirpurkhas Division, 202 vehicles were impounded, 162 documents were seized, of which 136 documents were released against recovery of tax Rs.3,07,853 and penalty of Rs.38, 821.Director General Excise & Taxation has advised to all the owners of vehicles to pay their motor vehicle tax in time and save from heavy penalty and impounding of their vehicles. – Nation
