Indian security forces are on alert today after a court backed Hindus in a long and bloody battle with Muslims over the ownership of a holy site.
The conflict over the site has set off communal riots in the past and India has sent hundreds of thousands of troops into the streets to keep order. Ravi Shankar Prasad, a lawyer for one of the parties in the suit, said the Ayodhya site will be divided between faiths. But the area considered most sacred by Muslims and Hindus will go to the Hindu community. They will keep the site where a small tent-shrine to Rama has been erected, Mr Prasad said – Skynews
