An international conference on “Woman in the biography of the Prophet, and the contemporary woman: A Saudi Arabian model” kicked off here yesterday.
Khaled bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hamoudi, president of Al-Qassim University, opened the conference at King Khaled Cultural Center. More than 140 prominent figures from 15 countries are taking part in the event organized by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashed Al-Homaid Chair for the Biography of the Prophet at the university. Al-Hamoudi also opened an exhibition on the Prophet’s biography held on the sidelines of the conference.
In his opening speech, Al-Hamoudi praised Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for patronizing the conference. He said that a total of 85 research papers will be presented at the conference, which will discuss in detail the role of Muslim women in the early and the present period.“Islam addressed the issues of woman since long time ago with due prominence, in a way protecting her rights in line with the teachings of Islam,” he said.
A video focusing on the activities and achievements of the chair in support of the Prophet’s biography was showed on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Suleiman bin Hamad Al-Ouda, supervisor of the chair, said that the chair made several achievements, including holding a competition on the Prophet’s biography in which more than 30,000 students participated. – Arabnews
