ISLAMABAD: Engro Foundation inaugurated the Ittehad Model Village on Tuesday in UC Ehsanpur of district Muzaffargarh for the flood-hit people of southern Punjab.
The model village sprawls over 20 acres of land and consists of 166 houses with a total population of over 1,000. Ittehad Model Village was conceptualised, planned and developed by Engro Foundation as an eco-friendly model village with the aim to rehabilitate the flood-affected community of Muzaffargarh. Engro undertook a holistic planning approach while drawing up this village ensuring that community participation was central to the establishment of the village. To this end Engro Foundation, in collaboration with its project partners involved these community members in the planning and design process, subsequently mobilising them to participate in the construction of the village.
Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund CEO Qazi Azmat Isa said, “The Ittehad Model Village personifies Pakistan at its best, with all stakeholders leveraging their expertise to maximum effect. During the design phase, a unique feature that was focused upon was to ensure that the social fabric of the community before the ravages of rains and floods remained intact and a deliberate effort was mounted to that end.” – Dailytimes
