LAHORE: A brawl erupted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday between families of a couple after Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik allowed the girl to go with the man with whom she had contracted a love marriage.
Riaz, a resident of Hujra Shah Muqeem, had approached the court for quashment of an abduction and theft case against him. He told the court that he had solemnised marriage with Asma Bibi on February 1 against the will of her parents, adding that the girl’s parents had lodged a case against him.Asma also told the court that she had contracted the marriage on her free will, adding that Riaz had neither kidnapped her nor did he steal anything from her house.
The judge allowed the girl to go with her husband.As the couple came out of the courtroom, family members of Asma attacked the couple and manhandled them. They also tried to take the girl with them. Family members of the bridegroom also stepped in and tried to rescue the couple. Riaz and Asma received some bruises in the brawl but they managed to flee the scene. They later received first aid from the dispensary of the Lahore High Court Bar Association. – Dailytimes
