ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Thursday said the Federal Investigation Agency had registered a case against Osama bin Laden’s widows for entering the country illegally.
“Only the adults had been booked,” he told the media after the inauguration of a photo exhibition in connection with International Women’s Day.“Currently, the women and their children are being held at a house which has been declared a sub-jail,” Malik said, adding that jail staff and police were deployed there. However, he didn’t mention the address. The minister went on: “The case had been lodged under the Foreigners Act and a judicial remand had also been sought. The accused would be provided right to defence.”
He said the OBL family will only be allowed to proceed to other country till they meet legal requirements.Asserting that OBL and his family were staying in Pakistan illegally and the government was unaware of their presence, he said the media misquoted his statement he gave before the OBL panel the other day. According to reports, the OBL family had been staying in a posh sector of the capital after the May 2 operation. The three wives have been in detention in Pakistan since May last year, when US commandos raided the house where they, bin Laden and several children were staying. The commandos killed bin Laden.
Malik said the three had been charged in court, but he did not say when they were charged. It was not immediately clear what kind of punishment they could expect if found guilty. The three, along with several children, were living in Pakistan without a visa.Online adds: The authorities have decided not to hand over Dr Shakil Afridi to the United States, rather action would be taken against him in Pakistan under Frontier Crime Regulation (FRC), sources revealed on Thursday.
