LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was elected president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab unopposed in the general council meeting on Monday.
No other member had filed papers for the post. Shahbaz said he would come up to the expectations of the party as well as its leadership. He said he would try his best to discharge his responsibilities efficiently, adding that workers who faced oppression and brutalities during the Musharraf regime were an asset to the party and he saluted them.
Shahbaz said he would reach every nook and corner of the province and fight for the rights of the people as well as implement the agenda of public service. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani congratulated the Punjab CM on his unopposed election as PML-N Punjab president. In a message, Gilani hoped that Shahbaz would continue making efforts for the strengthening of democracy. – PT
