KARACHI: It is difficult for Sindh government to bring peace alone and it is not easy to maintain law and order situation in Karachi without complete cooperation of all political parties. This was stated by Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan while briefing media after conclusion of his first-ever visit to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) headquarter, Nine-Zero, here on Monday.
He said, “This is my first visit to Nine-Zero as MQM chief is my old friend since late 80s and I have a great respect to him for his struggle towards the MQM cause. That’s why I came here first as it is my second home and will also go to other political parties’ offices for restoring peace in Karachi.”
He referred to his telephonic conversation with the MQM chief two days back who supported ‘Peace Rally’. He said: “Today he (Altaf Hussain) assured me 100 percent support from his party for restoring law and order in the metropolis.”The minister said reservations of MQM would be resolved for establishing peace in Karachi. Wassan said that he had talked to Hussain three days ago and he was greatly impressed by his statement that he was the true son of Sindh and that he would continue to fight for the rights of the people of Sindh. He said that there was significance of Karachi because of its strategic international importance. Karachi is mini Pakistan because all nationalities live here, he added.
The minister lauded the efforts being made by MQM and sought cooperation from MQM for bringing a durable peace in the city. He said action would be taken against all criminals whether they belonging to PPP, MQM, ANP or any other party.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sagheer Ahmed thanked Manzoor Wasan for visiting Nine Zero on behalf of Altaf Hussain. He said that Altaf Hussain had been continuously speaking about establishing peace in Karachi and Manzoor Wasan had said the same thing.Dr Sagheer said the home minister had been informed in detail about the current situation in the city. The minister had also been informed about the sensitive areas that had become the hotbed of criminal elements, land mafia and drug mafia operatives in these areas.
He said that the minister had also been informed about the lack of timely action by the law enforcing agencies in Kati Pahari area.He said the terrorists had become emboldened because of the inaction from police. It was because of this that terrorism was carried out in Malir, Kati Pahari and Banaras without any fear of law.
Dr Sagheer hoped that Wasan would translate his words into actions. He concluded by saying that Karachi was the economic hub of the country and a peaceful Karachi meant a peaceful Pakistan.Earlier, Wasan held a meeting with MQM Coordination Committee Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar and it members Syed Mustafa Kamal, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, and Wasay Jalil and Babar Ghauri.
