LAHORE: All traffic wardens working in the City will be provided Iftari on their deployment points during the holy month of Ramazan. “The move is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic during the Iftari time,” says an official handout issued here on Thursday from the central Traffic Police Office.According to the handout, over 1,300 wardens will be given point-to-point Iftari on about 25 particular points across the City. “Each Iftari packet will comprise one litre of Jam-e-Sherin (local drink), one juice packet of the Country brand, a Cup Cake, some peaches and not less than three dates,” it added.
The Iftari would also be provided to the motorists who got late in reaching their homes. For the common traveller, however, each Iftari packet will comprise one Shahi Sipari, some dates and almonds. The Iftari plan was discussed during a special meeting held at CTO’s office. Sadar Division Traffic SP Asif Zafar Cheema, City Division SP Mustafa Hameed Kamal, Headquarters SP Maroof Wahla and DSPs were also present and discussed the distribution procedure of the Iftari.Addressing the meeting minutes, the CTO sought it to be clear that no officer, may they be SPs or DSPs, would leave their duty points even 15 minutes after the call for Magrib Azaan. He also advised them to avoid taking holidays during the holy month.
Meanwhile, the entire lot of traffic wardens have been provided with Mexican Hats (big hats) following approval of the project by the IG Javed Iqbal. The CTO had moved a proposal to the IG and informed the top cop about the mercury-related difficulties of the traffic wardens. The Chief Traffic Officer told this scribe on Thursday that about 3,400 hats have been distributed among the Wardens. “The hats were given after a proper PCSIR fiber test conducted on the cap-cloth,” he said. It is worth mentioning here that special water bottles were earlier distributed among the wardens in order to facilitate them. – Nation
