ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar Tuesday directed the heads of power distribution companies (Discos) to recover at least Rs30 billion by the end of July.Addressing the heads of electricity distribution companies here, he said, all the electricity defaulted amount must be recovered within sixty days.A special campaign must be initiated in electronic and print media against the defaulters and their connections must also be cut off without any discrimination, he said.
Recovery of the unpaid electricity bills would help pay outstanding oil bills and increase power production besides decreasing line losses, the minister observed.He directed the discos heads to give targets to the concerned officials for ensuring the recovery of the outstanding money. He said in case of failure, stern action could be taken against the officials.The minister also directed the officials to initiate a special campaign against power pilferage. He directed the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) to ensure zero loadshedding during Sehr and Iftar in Ramazan and make special arrangements for increasing power production especially during the holy month of Ramazan. – Brecorder
