32% additional resources to be spent on education, health: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday said federal and provincial governments will spend additional 32 percent of their combined budget 2011-12 on education and health sectors as compared to last year.Talking to parliamentarians at his Parliament House Chamber, the Prime Minister said the government’s finance team had put together all their efforts in preparing a balanced and pro-people budget.He mentioned that transfer of resources to the province would help in addressing the pressing problems of the people.Regarding debates and suggestions put forth by Parliamentarians on various budgetary proposals, the Prime Minister appreciated the efforts and seriousness of the public representatives.He added that the Upper House also held a useful debate on the budget.The Prime Minister maintained that the wheat and sugarcane production in the country had shown remarkable increase as compared to year 2008-09 owing to the better pricing and supportive policies of the government.Commenting on the government’s fiscal policies, the Prime Minister said that prudent expenditure management and better resource mobilization had been the hallmark during the year ending on June 2011 which would be continued to provide space for overall growth.The parliamentarians informed the Prime Minister about various issues relating to their respective constituencies. They also briefed him about the status of development schemes in their areas.The parliamentarians included Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi and MNAs, Fiza Junejo and Khan Zada Khan. – APP
