ISLAMABAD – The session of the National Assembly is likely to start from June 3 wherein the budget for the fiscal year 2011-12 will be presented, parliamentary sources told Media. Sources said Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh would make his second budget speech on June 3 and later from June 6 the House will start debate on the budget.
“The summary for the budget session has been moved and will be issued in next few days,” the sources said, adding the National Assembly would pass the budget for fiscal year 2011-12 on June 24. The sources further said the budget session of the Senate was also expected on June 3 and the finance minister would present the budget in the Senate on the same date after which the upper house will present its recommendation on budget to the National Assembly.
Earlier the budget session was expected to start from May 28 but was reportedly delayed as the minister for finance had urged the government high-ups to give him some time to take all stakeholders on board. It is pertinent to mention here that it would be the fourth budget that is going to be presented by Pakistan Peoples Party while Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh would make his second budget speech. The first budget of the incumbent government was presented by the then finance minister Syed Naveed Qamar while the second was presented by the then minister of state for finance Hina Rabbani Khar. – Nation
