Sindh CM asks KESC to facilitate consumers

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has asked the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC)’s management to facilitate the consumers facing load shedding, outages and other difficulties.The chief minister held a meeting with the management of the KESC at the Chief Minister’s House here on Monday. He underlined the need to resolve the issues of KESC’s union.The meeting discussed issues persisting between management and KESC union.Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Inspector General Police Sindh Fayyaz Leghari, Capital City Police Officer Karachi Saud Mirza, Chief Executive Officer KESC Tabish Gauhar, Mazharul Haq and Usama Qureshi also attended the meeting.Shah stressed there must be an environment of compromise and mutual understanding with the objective and responsibility to resolve issues in the larger interest of the country and people.Malik stressed the need that the management of KESC should take appropriate measures for the end of strike by the union and staff. It was decided that a committee should be constituted, which would discuss and finalise the issues with a proposed solution as early as possible.PPI adds: KESC said on Monday that it had faced intensified attacks at the utility’s offices and assets this morning.KESC, in a press release, alleged that about 150 miscreants in small groups belonging to CBA union and its external connivers surrounded the KESC’s main city offices in State Life Building in Saddar this morning and blocked all entry points leading to the utility’s offices. The release described that they threatened and harassed all the employees, who had reached there to perform their duties.

As many as 10 vehicles ready to perform maintenance work were damaged at KESC’s Akhter Colony offices and the miscreants broke their windscreens thereby disabling them from use, the release added.It further said that they attacked the office premises and vandalised other KESC properties and vehicles parked there belonging to common citizens.The release said over 150 ‘saboteurs’ surrounded KESC’s powerhouse at Elandar Road since early morning. They blocked all entries to the offices and harassed and threatened the office going employees, it added.KESC condemned the subversive attacks and has demanded protection from the government and law enforcement agencies to help restore smooth functioning of the power utility in the best interest of the city and general public. – Dailytimes
