LAHORE: Kinnaird College (KC) for Women, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), organised a one-month Professional Competency Enhancement Programme that kicked off on Monday. At least 35 teachers from KC, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), and Punjab University (PU) are to be a part of the one-month long workshop. While delivering the welcoming speech, KC Vice Principal Dr Nikhat Khan said, “This programme will enable teachers to improve their communication skills, understand learning difficulties from students’ perspective, acquire skills and different teaching methodologies including effective use of audio-visual aids and Internet, curriculum designing and evaluation techniques which are integral to the learning process.”
She also thanked the HEC for promoting quality education in Pakistan by raising research standards, upgrading and updating curricula, by giving institutions recurring grants and funds for equipment and infrastructure, making available digital libraries with thousands of journals, monitoring institutions and making quality assurance mandatory. During the opening session, workshop co-coordinator Asma Awan introduced the courses that are to be offered in the training workshop. The 70-sessions based workshop will end on June 23. There will be three sessions per day in which 90 percent attendance on part of the participants is compulsory, said Asma.
Islamia University, Bahawalpur’s Faculty of Education Dean, Dr Aslam Ateeq, was the key speaker at the occasion. He thanked the organisers and participants for joining the session and ensured that this session will focus equally on theoretical and practical aspects of effective teaching methodology. The first session ended with positive response from participants who hailed the professionalism that was shown by the organisers as well as speakers. – Dailytimes
