LONDON: The British Government has appointed Mark Sedwill as the UK Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan following his return from Kabul where he has been serving as NATO senior civilian representative.According to Foreign and Commonwealth Office announcement, Sedwill will also concurrently serve in the FCO as Director-General (Afghanistan and Pakistan).He succeeds the present incumbent Karen Pierce, Director for South Asia and Afghanistan, who will be moving on to another Diplomatic Service appointment.Sedwill will be taking up his appointment in early May. He had also served as British Ambassador in Kabul and as well as the Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan between 2003 and 2005. – APP
