KARACHI – Two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were shot dead, in separate incidents while riots that erupted ensuing the killings, were continued in parts of the city here on Tuesday.
The fresh target killings of political activists exposed the grave dereliction and failure on part of the law enforcement agencies to curb the menace. According to details, in the first incident, the bullet-riddled body of an activist of MQM elder wing, namely 40-year-old Azizur Rehman, son of Mohammad Taqqi, a resident of Mir Mohammad Baloch area, Baghdadi was found. He was kidnapped by unidentified culprits when he was going to greet his family members Eid Fitr two days ago from the said area. Unidentified armed men intercepted and kidnapped him while after torching, they shot him dead at Fariya Street near MH school in the remit of Kharadar Police and manage to flee. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities. According to the CHK Medico Legal Officer (MLO), he had sustained 5 bullets and died on the spot. The police officials said the victim had no child. No case was registered till filing of the report. In another incident, an activist of MQM was gunned down by unidentified armed men at Sikanderabad in the jurisdiction of Liaqatabad Police. The police said that Kaleem Ahmed, son of Nisar Ahmed, activist of the MQM) was a resident of Sikanderabad area near Hanfia Mosque. They said that he was sitting in front of his house when unidentified motorcyclists reached there and fired gunshots at him. The police rushed him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where doctor pronounced him dead. According to the doctors, the deceased had received three bullets in chest.
The police pointed out that the deceased was an active worker of the MQM unit-159, while his brother namely Javed Ahmed was also active worker of the said unit. On a complaint of Javed, the police registered FIR No 437/10 against unidentified armed men and initiated further probe.
