LAHORE: Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa on Wednesday conferred Pakistan Civil Awards (presidential awards) upon 48 persons for their services in the field of agriculture, science, engineering, medical, art, sports, literature, social services, law and order, music, nuclear technology and journalism.Of these distinguished people, 10 were awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz, 19 Pride of Performance and 19 Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.The awards distribution ceremony was held at Governor’s House and largely attended by parliamentarians, officers of various departments, Pakistan People’s Party office-bearers and families of award winners.Capital City Police Officer Aslam Tareen was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for his strategy and courage he showed during an attack by militants on GHQ on Oct 10, 2009. Tareen was working as regional police officer of Rawalpindi at that time.Punjab Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer has been awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz for establishing the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122), says a press release.FREED: A total of 161 convicts undergoing various terms in different jails across the province were set free, while 138 others benfitted following a special presidential remission granted on the occasion of the Pakistan Day, said Inspector General of Prisons Kokab Nadeem Warraich. – Dawn
