THE RUPEE: dollar higher

KARACHI: The rupee turned lower against dollar on the interbank market on Monday due to rising demand for the greenback, dealers said. The rupee extended its fall, losing six paisa against the dollar for buying at 85.50 and shed nine paisa for selling at 85.55, they said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: In the first Asian trade yen stayed on the defensive on Monday, but losses were limited, in a sign that further action may be needed to curb the Japanese currency after the first G7 joint intervention in over a decade.Analysts said the G7 deal was more likely an attempt to dampen market volatility than reverse the yen’s strengthening trend. Japan markets are off on Monday, sapping liquidity even further. Indian rupee was at Rs 45.12 in terms of the greenback, Malalysian ringgit was available at 3.0370 in relation to the US currency and Chinese yuan was trading at 6.5648 versus dollar.Inter-bank buy/sell rates for taka against the dollar on Monday : 72.30/72.48 (previous 71.99/72.40). Call Money Rates: 11.00-12.00 percent (previous 11.00-12.00 percent).

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to hold its weekend levels against the dollar for buying and selling at 85.40 and 85.55, they added.Meanwhile, the rupee shed five paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 120.45 and Rs 120.95, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee showed stability and remained unchanged against the US dollar amid low trading activity in the open currency market on Monday.According to the currency dealers, there was no visible change in the dollar’s demand and supply situation that helped its stability in the local market. The dollar was traded at last Saturday closing levels of Rs 85.30 and Rs 85.55 on buying and selling sides, respectively.Similarly, the rupee stayed unchanged on buying side while it gained 30-paisa on selling side against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 137.80 and Rs 138.50 as compared to previous closing of Rs 137.80 and Rs 138.80, respectively, the dealers added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar remained unchanged against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.20 (buying) and Rs 85.30 (selling) against the same last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.20 (buying) and Rs 85.30 (selling).Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.50 (buying) and Rs 137.50 (selling) against the same previous rate. It did not witness any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 136.50 (buying) and Rs 137.50 (selling). – Brecorder
