ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP): The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will assist Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) to approach international markets in marble mosaic under Women Entrepreneurship Development Program in Pakistan. In this regard, a letter of exchange was signed by PASDEC and UNIDO in a ceremony held at a local hotel. Dr. Ayat Ullah Durrani Minister of State for Industries and Production was also present on the occasion.
Marble Mosaic is the aesthetic art of decoration with small pieces of marble stone, said a press statement of the company adding PASDEC is promoting enterprise household models to support dynamic women enterprising activities to generate employment and a rural labor market to produce high value products of marble mosaic.
PASDEC has already conducted technical and skill training programs for women to promote entrepreneurship culture through self-employment.
On the occasion, Chief Executive Office PASDEC, Ihsan Ullah Khan briefed the participants about marble mosaic training workshops in the country.
He said that, PASDEC is entering in a joint venture with UNIDO to approach international market in Marble Mosaic with a view to trickle down effect of this effort to the women of Pakistan at grass root level for their economic empowerment and enterprise development.
UNIDO Representative, Miss Shadia Yousif said that UNIDO is dedicated to promote sustainable industrial development in developing economies.
UNIDO recognizes that expanding self-employment and creating opportunities for women through productive work and income generating activities are one of the most effective ways to alleviate poverty and promote female economic empowerment, she added.
She said the main challenge that women entrepreneur of Pakistan encounters are limited access to the information and support services, ineffective linkages within the supply chain partners and the limited access to markets.
This weakens their bargaining position with middle persons who enjoy the bulk of revenues, she added.
She informed the participants that in order to reach women entrepreneurs and their families, UNIDO’s women entrepreneurship Development (WED) technical assistance will establish synergistic partnership between the governments, public and private sector support services – APP
