NBP wins National Hockey Championship

FAISALABAD: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has won the 58th National Hockey Championship by defeating Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with 4-3 goals in the thrilling final match of the championship concluded at Faisalabad Hockey Stadium, Madina Town here on Sunday.. Taufeeq of NBP scored 2 goals while Yasir Shabbir and Muhammad Attique bagged one goal each.Pakistan Wapda got third position in the championship.Shafqat Raool captain PIA Hockey team was declared “Man of the Tournament”.He was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000 for his superb performance in the championship.Yaseen Islam, Zaheer Ahmad and Ehsan Ullah scored one goal each for PIA.President Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Qasim Zia, witnessed the final match as chief guest while Divisional Commissioner Tahir Husain and Coach of Pakistan Hockey Team Michel Van Den Heuvel, Asif Bajwa Secretary PHF, Rana Mujahid Ali Secretary Punjab Hockey Association, Hajji Mazher Ali Khan President, Olympion Khalid Basheer Secretary Faisalabad Hockey Association and Mian Zubair Anwar Divisional Sports Officer were also present on the occasion.The National Hockey Championship started on January 28 and continued till February 13.Ten top level departmental hockey teams including NBP, PIA, Pakistan Wapda, Sui Sithren Gas Pipelines Limited, Pakistan Navy, Steel Mills, Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Port Qasim and Pakistan Television (PTV) Corporation participated in the championship – APP
