A surface-to-air missile was taken to a police station, causing chaos in a Black Country town centre.A 400m cordon was put in place in Wednesbury after a man drove it to the police station. He had collected the missile from a house clearance.Nearby businesses were evacuated and junction nine of the M6 was closed. The Metro service was also suspended and the bus station shut. The device was later classified as an inert surface-to-air missile. It was taken away by a bomb disposal team after it was reported to police at about 1540 GMT.A temporary shelter was set up at the town’s Mecca bingo hall and diversions were put in place. The man had collected a few items from the house clearance in Leicester and only realised afterwards he might have a missile, measuring about one metre in length, among his haul.Cordons were lifted about two hours after he reported it and all roads and routes in the area were reopened by 1800 GMT, police said.Insp Martin Santicchia from West Midlands Police, said: “I would like to thank the public for their understanding and apologise for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.”Thankfully the package was found to be nothing of concern – BBC
