ISLAMABAD:Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will proceed to India to attend the 17th Commonwealth Law Conference in Hyderabad, India starting from February 5.Indian Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Conference. The Conference will be addressed by the Chief Justices and Judges of Commonwealth jurisdictions including Canada, Caribbean, UK, Africa, India , Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.Pakistan will be represented, besides the Chief Justice, by a large number of advocates from all over the country.The Chief Justice has been especially invited to give a key note address on the issue of “Emerging Economies and the Rule of Law: Challenges & Opportunities”.It is expected that Chief Justice of Pakistan will highlight the issue of rule of law, the role of judiciary in economic, social development and good governance, also touching global trade laws and some distortions in their applications, democracy and rights based administration in the developing countries like Pakistan.He is also scheduled to meet the Chief Justice of India S.H. Kapadia on the sidelines of the meeting.In addition to that, the CJP will be attending a high profile patron Chief Justices meeting in which the Chief Justices of other leading Commonwealth countries will discuss various important issues of institutional interest of judiciaries in the Commonwealth.The Conference will offer high profile key note addresses, an exhibition and a number of satellite meetings hosted by other Commonwealth and legal associations which will take place on the sidelines of the Conference.This Conference is being organized by the Commonwealth Law Association and it will provide an important opportunity for judicial luminaries and legal practitioners from across the Commonwealth and other regions to come together and share their unique experiences/expertise and perceptions about law and system of judicial administration.The theme of the Conference is “Emerging Economies and the Rule of Law: Challenges & Opportunities” which reflects the rapidly changing world and the ongoing challenges to legal practitioners to keep pace with the developments and to maintain rule of law.It will focus on human rights and the rule of law; corporate and commercial law; legal and judicial profession and other contemporary legal topics, addressed by leading lawyers from the Commonwealth – Dailymailnews
