Gabriela Irimia, better known as one half of the Cheeky Girls, has landed herself in bother with the police after an incident at a Cheshire supermarket.
The singer was cautioned for theft relating to claims she attempted to shoplift from Sainsbury’s on Alderley Road in Wilmslow yesterday (Friday). A police spokesman told BBC News that a 26-year-old woman from Essex was detained on suspicion of theft of grocery items.
‘The woman was interviewed by police as part of the investigation into the circumstances of the incident and subsequently given a caution for theft,’ he added. Ms Irimia was once engaged to former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik.
She and her twin sister Monica sold 1.2 million copies of their debut single Cheeky Song (Touch my Bum) in 2002, recording four top-ten hits.
The sisters hail from Romania’s Transylvania region and rose to fame on Popstars: The Rivals in the same year they moved to the UK with their mother. – Metro
