‘Little Fockers’ tops holiday box office

NEW YORK – “Little Fockers,” the third installment of the Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro in-law comedy series, topped the holiday box office with $30.8 million over the weekend. The Coen brothers’ “True Grit” opened with a better-than-expected $25.6 million during the Christmas weekend.

Final figures on Monday were several million less than Sunday estimates, as studios may have had their figures altered due to the blizzard in the Northeast. Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony still declined to issue final numbers Monday. The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:

1. “Little Fockers,” Universal, $30,833,665, 3,536 locations, $8,720 average, $45,083,800, one week.
2. “True Grit,” Paramount, $25,600,000, 3,047 locations, $8,402 average, $36,818,000, one week.
3. “Tron: Legacy,” Disney, $19,151,498, 3,451 locations, $5,550 average, $87,373,703, two weeks.
4. “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” Fox, $9,478,043, 3,532 locations, $2,683 average, $62,597,030, three weeks.
5. “Yogi Bear,” Warner Bros., $8,800,000, 3,515 locations, $2,504 average, $36,785,000, two weeks.
6. “The Fighter,” Paramount, $8,500,000, 2,511 locations, $3,385 average, $27,574,000, three weeks.
7. “Tangled,” Disney, $6,427,816, 2,582 locations, $2,489 average, $143,695,323, five weeks.
