KARACHI – Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan on Tuesday lashed out at PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and termed the appointment of ‘absconder’, Rana Maqbool as Secretary Punjab prosecution, as violation of the judiciary’s verdict.
Addressing to a Press conference at Qasar-e-Naz (Federal Lodges) in Karachi, Babar made it clear that Prosecutor General of NAB had been removed on Supreme Court’s order, and that the government was implementing all the decisions of apex court in letter and sprit.
When his attention was drawn towards PGA refusal to leave the charge of the office, Babar Awan said that government had removed PGA Irfan Qadir, however, government was not responsible for any individual’s act.
Federal Minister criticised PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, terming their statement with regard to PGA’s removal against the spirit of 18th amendment and Charter of Democracy which he said was a non-issue.
He also claimed that PNL-N chief was also losing control over the party as he had long been out of the Parliament. “There are as many as 11 candidates who eye the slot of the prime minister, given the PML-N wins majority in next polls”, he noted.
He urged Nawaz Sharif to contest polls and become member of parliament offering that PPP would not field its candidate against him.
Babar said Nawaz Sharif was afraid of PPP after it defeated PML-N in recent bye-elections in Punjab.
Awan said the Sharif brothers were adhering to double standards as they were criticising government for not implementing apex court’s verdict and at the same time they were giving protection to a ‘judicial absconder’ Rana Maqbool.
He claimed that law and order situation in could only worsen in Punjab when the provincial govt would appoint an absconder as secretary Punjab prosecution . He advised Sharif bothers to honour to the verdict of judiciary of smaller provinces and help in the arrest of the former IGP Rana Maqbool immediately and handover him to Sindh police. -Nation
