Directs FIA DG to shift NICL scam culprit to Lahore

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general to shift the main culprit of National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, Ayaz Khan Niazi, from Karcahi to Lahore for interrogation. The court also directed the agency to expedite efforts for the recovery of embezzled money. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard a suo moto case over alleged violation of rules by NICL chairman in the procurement of land on high rates causing a huge financial loss to the national exchequer. FIA Punjab Deputy Director Zafar Quraishi informed the court that more than Rs 1 billion had been recovered from those involved in the scam.
