LAHORE : Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Thursday took oath as new Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) at Governor House.Governor Punjab Salman Taseer administered oath to him. Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad, Advisor to CM Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Judges of LHC and a large number of lawyers’ and government officials attended the oath taking ceremony.Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Khawaja Muhammad Sharif retired on Wednesday after reaching the age of 62 years .
The appointment of the Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry is the first ever appointment of nay judge under the new mode of judges’ appointment introduced in the 18th Constitutional Amendment.It is worth mentioning here that Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry was born on 15th of December 1950 in Shakkar Garh sub-district of Narowal district.He was appointed as Additional Judge of the Lahore High Court in May 2001 and would retire on the 14th of December 2012.It is also worth mentioning here that Justice Ijaz Chaudhry is one of those judges who had refused to take oath of Pervez Musharraf’s PCO issued on Nov3, 2007.Ijaz Chaudhry and 13 other judges’ of high courts and Supreme Court of Pakistan were restored on the 16th of March 2009 in the result of the long march lead by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif – Sananews
